This course holds two objectives. First, we will explore the impacts of environmental change throughout the Lake Champlain Basin in New York, Quebec and Vermont. Using a social-ecological systems lens--which highlights the complex relationships among social, ecological, economic and political structures--we seek to reveal the impacts of environmental change felt by residents of the basin; challenges to resilience planning in the region; and ongoing efforts at climate adaptation enacted by communities and individuals. Second, we intend to study the leadership, decision making, collaboration and conflict management practices of individuals engaged in adaptation efforts.
Prerequisite(s): completion of Science Gen Ed.
